    Greetings and Welcome to Faculty of Pharmacy, School of Pharmaceutical and Populations Health Informatics, DIT University, a well-established Professional Institution under the banner of DIT University, Dehradun. Faculty of Pharmacy was established in the year 2005 under the aegis of the Unison group with an aim to train individuals displaying competency in the Pharmaceutical sector to meet the requirements of the ever-growing Healthcare sector. Here we believe that the journey of developing good health professionals begins from cultivating compassion, respect, and academic integrity in our learners. Diversity is one of our core values, and we strive to inspire our students to be forces of positive change in the world. A rigorous academic life, supported by state of the art infrastructure, technology and a committed faculty has made outstanding results our hallmark. Under Faculty of Pharmacy, we motivate our students to achieve the highest standards of excellence in their courses. Our continuous efforts to develop new technologies to augment usage of old drugs for new indications for various diseased states and a proper coordination between the academic and industrial fronts stimulates us to work more efficiently. We utilize our best sources and brains/intellects and to elevate Faculty of Pharmacy as a brand among Health Education and Research. We are enabling research in various thrust areas like formulation development, bioavailability enhancement of poorly soluble and poorly permeable drugs using various pharmaceutical technologies and novel drug delivery systems, synthesis, characterization of new drugs. Emphasis is also given on the development of Herbal formulations and activities of various herbs by taking the advantages of geographical location which is reach in medicinal plants. We hope to continue receiving co-operation from all concerned in coming years to achieve our predetermined goals.


  • Profile

     

    Prof (Dr) Giriraj T Kulkarni has completed his B Pharm (1992) and M Pharm (1994) from Gulbarga University, Gulbarga, Karnataka and PhD (2006) from The Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai.

    He has a total teaching and research experience of 29 years and has guided 60 M Pharm dissertations and 15 PhD research scholars.

    He has published 176 papers in various national and international journals and 14 books and book chapters through various international publishers such as Elsevier, Informa, etc. He also has 76 papers in various national and international conferences and has 19 patents to his credit. His papers have received more than 3500 Citations, h-index is 32 and i10-index is 68. Cumulative

    Impact Factor of all the publications is more than 250.

    He is life member of various organizations including APTI, IPA, IPGA, SPER and SPDS. He has received various awards which include Gold Medal from Gulbarga University in B. Pharm (1992), 36th IPC Award for securing first rank in B. Pharm (1992), IDMA (Indian Drug manufacturers’ Association) Best Paper Award (2002), APTI Best Paper Award (2010), International Travel Award from Tefarco Innova Italy (2005), APJ Abdul Kalam Research Thinker Award 2019 (Students’ Choice) from Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Pharma Ratna-2019: Best Professor Award from Rab Di Mehr Foundation, Delhi, National level first prize from SPDS for the paper presented in DRPI-2020, Teacher Recognition Award from Together We Can Foundation, Ambala Cantt, Haryana (2021), Best Principal Award (2023) from InSc, Bangalore. The areas of research interest include natural excipients, hydrogel technology, nanotechnology for drug delivery, herbal drug delivery systems for neurological disorders and infectious diseases. He has worked on many industry / consultancy projects including “Development of herbal oral formulations for treatment of diabetes and hyperacidity” for Blue Mountain Botanicals, Ootacamund, “Preclinical trial to study the toxicity of fortified protein AproBean as therapeutic food in rodents” for M/s Enlight Life Science Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, “Evaluation of pharmaceutical excipient properties of tamarind seed polysaccharide” for M/s Ratan Agencies, Beed, Maharashtra, “Development and Evaluation of Millet Based Health Drink” for Famnutra Millet Food Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad. He has served as external expert for Kusum Healthcare, New Delhi, for the evaluation of formulations for launching (2009-2014).

    Selected as Guest Editor of ‘Natural Product Radiance’ (NISCAIR, New Delhi), to bring out a Special Issue on ‘Herbal Cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals’ (July-August 2005). Worked as Regional Editor of ‘Advances in Medical and Dental Sciences’ (American-Eurasian Network for Scientific Information, Jordan).

    Conducted more than 50 workshops / conferences as Chairperson / Convener / Organization Committee member and attended 40 conferences in India and abroad as Resource person / Session Chair.

    The Guide: Dr. Mandeep Kumar Arora, HoD

    Dr. Mandeep Kumar Arora is an accommodating and versatile individual with the talent to develop inspiring hands-on lessons that captures the student’s imagination and breed success & committed to creating a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating and encouraging to students by his pragmatic vast academic and research experience.

    He joined the School of Pharmaceutical and Population Health Informatics as an Associate Professor in March 2021 and presently assigned to the position of Department Head.

    Dr. Arora has also two years of International experience- (worked in Glasgow, United Kingdom in the field of nutrition, 2004-2006). He has been awarded with certificate for Highly cited research by Elsevier-Vascular Pharmacology (according to data from Scopus), and honoured by Indian Pharmacological Society for his services rendered in the capacity of Organizing Secretary for NRIPSCON-2017. Most recently, Dr. Arora was conferred upon Teachers of the Year-2021 award by the Honourable Chief Minister of Uttrakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Teacher's day. He has published three books; two patents; completed one Govt. funded project and having more than 25 publications in International Journals with high Impact factor with more than 750 citations. Dr. Arora has organized various scientific programmes including Faculty Development Program, National/International Conference, Seminar, Workshop etc. in the field of Pharmacology. Dr. Arora is also serving as CPCSEA nominee. Before joining DIT, he was working as Associate Professor at KIET Group of Institutions, Ghaziabad.

  • Facilities

    We have 14 state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with sophisticated instruments. We also have following advance facilities for teaching, learning and research: (1) Central Instrumentation Room: Equipped with advanced facilities such as HPLC, UV-spectrophotometer, Brooke filed viscometer, etc. Providing preliminary training to work in Pharmaceutical industries. (3) Pharmacy Museum: It is a firsthand experience for budding pharmacists to observe drug dosage forms with their packaging. (4) Molecular Pharmacology laboratory: It has advanced instruments such as CO2 incubator, refrigerator centrifuges, cell counter, ELISA assembly, etc.

    Pharmacy is a unique profession that provides an expertise in manufacturing of medicines, health-care service to patient, ensures safe and effective use of medication for better health and well-being.

  • The goal of the Pharmacy program is to render professional skill, knowledge, abilities to serve in pharmaceutical industries and to provide appropriate medication service to the patient. The curriculum philosophy aims to provide ability to design & evaluates various dosage forms & also provides Regulatory & Ethics to be followed in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Processes. The academic program for B Pharm provides an in-depth adequate knowledge & scientific research updates including basic principles & advances in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical chemistry, Pharmacology & Phytomedicines.

  • Students enrolled in pharmacy programs are provided practical skills in synthesis of API, intermediates & analytical techniques for various pharmaceutical and herbal dosage forms. Students are also trained on pre-clinical & clinical evaluation of drug molecules, standardization of pharmaceutical preparations, identifying & educating patients on drug-drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, side effects, product detailing and marketing pharmaceutical products.

  • The Faculty of Pharmacy was established in 2005 and recognized by the Govt. of Uttarakhand & approved by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi. The Department has been a front runner in the field of pharmacy education with highly qualified, experienced and research-oriented faculty. It also ignites, inbuilt abilities & potentialities among students and prepares highly competent Pharmacists who can serve in Pharmacy profession Nationally and globally.

  • In last 13 years the department has presented more than 250 research papers at National and International scientific platforms, filed more than 86 Indian patents and published more than 200 research publications. Our graduates are excellently placed in pharmaceutical companies such as Sun Pharma, Nestle, Alembic, McLeod Pharma, Lupin, Natco Pharmac, etc., with over 80% placement record.

    The Department is adjudged as an outstanding pharmacy institute of Uttarakhand & one of the best institutes in India by IPER (Institute of Pharmacy Education & Research, Pune).

  • The School of Pharmaceutical & Populations Health Informatics at DIT University has excellent laboratory setup to ensure experiential learning for a better grasp of the theoretical aspects of pharmaceutical sciences.

    The prime focus is always laid on skill enhancement and inculcate the culture of research to solve emerging challenges towards a successful career ahead. State-of-the-art Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Biotechnology, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and other laboratories supported by advanced instruments and well-trained technicians provides opportunities of learning by doing.

  • Pharmaceutics Labs

    The department is having five pharmaceutics labs including AC instrumentation lab and machine room. All labs are well equipped with sophisticated instruments such as UV spectrophotometer, HPLC, multi-station Franz diffusion cell assembly, Brookfield Viscometer, 12station Tablet Compression Machine, I-disso Electrolab etc. The objectives of these labs is to provide practical exposure to the budding pharmacists on Physical Pharmaceutics, Manufacturing Operations, Pre-formulation Screening Tests, Designing, Evaluation and Pharmacokinetic study of solid, liquid, semisolid dosage forms including Novel Drug Delivery Systems for ocular, nasal, transungual, transmucosal, translabial, transnabhi, soft palatal drug delivery systems etc., which curtail the drug dose and minimizes the drug adverse reactions with excellent patient compliance.

  • Pharmacognosy and Biotechnology Labs

    The Pharmacognosy and Biotechnology Labs are equipped with Autoclaves, BOD Incubators, Microtome Blade and Laminar Air Flow etc. The primary objective of these labs is to provide practical exposure to Undergraduates and Research Students on techniques of tissue culture, sterilization, antibiotic assay, microbial Screening, microbial sensitivity, microbial resistance, etc.

  • Pharmacology Labs

    The department has two Pharmacology Labs equipped with instruments for pharmacological screening such as Rotarod, Pole Climbing Apparatus, Electroconvulsiometer, Eddy’s Hot Plate, Actophotometer, Spirometer, Analgesiometer and Software’s for performing simulated pharmacological experiments. Learning of Anatomy and Physiology is supported by 3D models and charts, Human skeleton, histopathological slides and multimedia equipment.

  • Medicinal Chemistry Labs

    Three Medicinal Chemistry Labs are well equipped with sophisticated instruments like HPLC (Agilent), UV Spectrophotometer 1800 (Shimadzu), Karl Fischer Titrator, Gel Electrophoresis (Genei) etc.

    The students will be exposed to analyze the organic and inorganic compounds as per Pharmacopoeial Standards along with practical experience for synthesizing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients etc.

  • Herbal Garden

    Keeping pace with the changing times in the field of medicinal plants, the Department maintains a Herbal Garden with several species of Medicinal Plants. The students get a first-hand experience regarding Identification of Medicinal Plants & herbs, with Cultivation & Collection techniques.

  • Animal House

    An independent, air conditioned animal house facility is available at the School of Pharmaceutical & Populations Health Informatics. It is registered with CPCSEA (Reg No.1156/ac/07/CPCSEA)
