M.Tech in Electrical Engineering with Specialization in Power System

  • About Program

    M.Tech. Power Systems Engineering course curriculum covers both theoretical and practical aspects of power systems such as dynamics, power system analysis, operations, control, planning, reliability and protection, and also security, power quality and power system transients This course aims at training graduate engineers in the field of Power Systems. This course deals with the techniques in Power System analysis, stability evaluation planning, reliability. The course also covers subjects on high voltage DC transmission, industrial electronics and controls, power electronics and drives, wind and solar energy electric conversion systems and advanced topics in micro processors and micro controllers which are very much needed for today's power system engineer. Projects of practical relevance in these areas of carried out in the final semester of the course. The objective of the course is to produce Electrical Power Engineers with ethical attitudes to meet intricate technology challenges for betterment of society; to meet educational and industrial needs through effective training in state of the art technology in the area of Power System and Drives.To impart research and technological skills amongst the Electrical Engineering graduates to become leading professionals in the power sector. Students will acquire ability of creative thinking, critical analysis and decision making for productive research and development in the area of power sector.Students will be able to contribute in newly emerging areas through collaborative and multidisciplinary research.

Duration & Eligibility

MTech – 2 Years

Minimum 55% marks in BE/BTech or equivalent in Civil, Chemical, Geo informatics, Biotech, Industrial Biotech, chemical & electrochemical. GATE/NET qualified students shall be preferred.

Program Educational Objectives

PEO1 To provide students advancement in mathematical and engineering required to solve real world engineering problems and also to pursue research and publications.
PEO2 To train students to work as teams to comprehend, analyse, design and create innovative concepts to adapt themselves with new technological challenges with reference to local, national and global scenario.
PEO3 To provide an academic environment that gives adequate opportunity to the students to cultivate lifelong skills needed for a successful professional career.

Outcomes of the Program

PO1 Engineering knowledge: Apply the advance knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of electrical engineering problems.
PO2 Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO3 Design/ Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO4 Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of electronics and electrical circuits, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO5 Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to meet desired needs within the context of electrical and electronics and communication engineering and considering realistic constraints.
PO6 The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
