  • About Program

    BA (Honours) Sociology is a 3-year course that will expose the students to the understanding of the fundamental concept related to structure of society, social customs, tradition and modern culture, organization of society and how humans interact across the society. Studies of Sociology in the fields of stratification, gender, environment, the sociology of development, historical sociology, urban sociology, and medical sociology, the sociology of masculinity, demography, popular culture, education, migration, the sociology of violence and documentary practices of the society also offer great understanding of social values. With such a complex subject, there are many different angles and lenses through which the subject matter can be studied It will take the students much beyond their little experience of life to wider thoughts, varied perception and experiences to explore wider universal issues for better understanding of themselves and the world around them. It will enable the students to pursue careers in public and private sectors. The main objective of the course is to provide knowledge on distinctness of sociological scholarship as a separate cognitive discipline on urban dimension in India. This helps to develop an understanding about the fundamental social reality, social process and changes seen in developmental perspective of urban scenario.
