Dr. Sharma has led several funded projects, including a UGC Major Research Project on Microwave Welding, an AICTE-NCP on Metallic Foams, and a DST-FIST II project. He also coordinated a Time and Motion Study for MANREGA wage assessment for the Jharkhand government.
In leadership roles, he served as Dean of Student Welfare, Head of Department, Director of University Polytechnic, and Executive Director of BIT-STEP. At BIT-STEP, he revived the long-inactive society, bringing its operations back after nearly 30 years. As Director of the Polytechnic, he restored government funding, introduced a Hyundai-sponsored laboratory, implemented a NEP-based curriculum, secured NBA accreditation, and upgraded infrastructure.
He significantly improved placements and admissions at BIT Deoghar Campus as Chairman of the respective committees. As the Transport Department Professor In-Charge, he launched driver training programs, emergency maintenance initiatives, and career development plans.
Dr. Sharma is affiliated with several professional bodies, including ASME, Institution of Engineers (India), ISTE, Indian Science Congress, PMAI, and Additive Manufacturing Society of India. He has authored books and chapters and remains an active contributor to manufacturing research and policy implementation.
His commitment to academia, innovation, and institutional development continues to positively impact education, research, and industry collaborations across India.
