    The Mentor: Dr. Manoj Kumar, Professor and HoD,  PHD an alumnus of IIT Roorkee, 2012

    Dr. Kumar says that through his wide educational and professional experience he wants to create a next road map for the students. After an extensive search he accepted to join DITU as Head of Mechanical Department.

    An awardee of Elsevier Applied Thermal Engineering journal, Elsevier Chemical Engineering & Processing: Process Intensification journal and more; makes him a master of his subject. His recognitions are the benchmark: as DAAD research fellow, Technical University, Germany.

    “Each generation involves new set of challenges” Dr. Manoj Kumar envisions to strengthen the teaching and learning system along with the research work. Nationally and internationally travelled for several projects and chairing the International Conference on ICACCT, APPIIT, and many more talks about Future Readiness for industries with his students at DITU.

    His 28 years of teaching experience speaks about quality which is scripted as a success story of GATE selection since a decade at DITU. The publications have taken a new route to his interest and he has published 28 papers is SCI index international journals. A proficient supervisor took the chare to inspect 24 PG dissertation and many UG projects.

    Dr. Manoj Kumar supports the improved methodology and guide students for higher education to be on the right path.

About the Department

  • Mechanical Engineering is the oldest branch of engineering at DITU, that has found innumerable applications since it prehistoric times. Today, as we embark on new technological developments,

    the field of mechanical engineering has expanded tremendously to include Nano Materials & Technology, Renewable Energy, Computer Aided Design and Advance Manufacturing, Robotics, Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering besides conventional core areas.

  • Mechanical Engineers; the Designer of World, uses principles of science along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product life-cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices. Mechanical engineering has wide spectrum of application in automobile engineering, aerospace engineering, metallurgical engineering, marine engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, petroleum engineering, and chemical engineering.

    Automobile Engineering a specialized program of mechanical engineering deals with the study of Automotive-drawing, design & manufacturing of automobile, and their respective subsystem. Automobile engineers incorporates elements of mechanical, electrical, electronic, software and safety engineering in manufacturing, assembling and operation of automotive vehicles.

  • India is a home, attracting pupil from far- flung areas including international stakeholders, offering excellent jobs opportunities to develop a career in automobile industry and this in turn creates a strong demands for automobile engineers.

    After an existence in 1998 the department has recorded consistent improvement in its academics, research and placements performance. Our department claims to have best quality Research Work at M.Tech. And Ph.D. level in the field of Mechanical Engineering. It offers a range of innovative designed program whose curricula & constantly update to meet the changing requirement of industry and meet the needs of all the stakeholders.  Principles of academics, laboratories and infrastructure has uniqueness to train students for future readiness. Thermal engineering, CFD, metal forming, composite material, CAD, CAM and Tribology, also art advanced lab facility such as Flexible Manufacturing system (FMS), Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment

  • Students are encouraged to get hands- on experience in the corporate world through internships projects with reputed organizations. With all the inputs one finds our students hardworking, practical- oriented and effective in any work environment. Student’s college club of Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) is dedicated platform for students to participate, organize guest lectures, technical and model making competition, training and workshop.

    The department has developed a light weight palky for hills of Uttarakhand under Uttarakhand state Council for Science and Technology (UCOST). Department has also developed a special purpose machine for industry for profile cutting of pipes.

  • The department has fully equipped labs supervised by experienced faculty members. There are trained technicians to help the students in performing the experiments.


    Heat and Mass transfer is an important area of Mechanical Engineering. The lab provides the facilities for imparting practical on the related concepts of heat and mass transfer in thermal power plants, gas turbines, steam turbines and Heat exchangers.


    RAC (Refrigeration & Air Conditioning) is one of the most important contributions of Mechanical Engineering to the present day civilization. The lab has state of the art facilities for providing the hands-on experience to the students. Knowledge of domestic refrigerators and its various components, concepts of cooling and heating systems.


    The lab has up-to-date equipment for conducting experiments in the course of internal combustion Engines. Mechanical and Automobile Engineering students are exposed essential practical aspects of the engine parts of automotive vehicles.


    Fluid Mechanics lab has the equipment needed to impart practical knowledge to the students in the essential area of Mechanical Engineering. Hydraulic Impulse and Reaction type Turbines, Centrifugal and reciprocating pumps and Flow measuring equipment are some of the example of the equipment in this lab.


    Testing of materials for their strength under the action of external loads are studied in this lab. Knowledge of strength of Metals and nonmetals is essentials before its use in any structure and designing.


    Muffle Furnace, Inverted Metallographic, Microscope, Abrasive Cutoff Machine and PC/ Set up, ultra sonic machine for microstructure determination are some examples of typical updated equipments available in the lab to cater the knowledge of material properties.


    Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) is a non – conventional machining facility in which machining is performed on very hard metal and non-metal alloys like tungsten carbide and die steels. The students acquire latest knowledge of this hi -tech machining method.


    FMS lab has some of the most high-tech equipments related to fully automated factories commonly found in manufacturing industry. A state of the art robot interfaced with other hi-tech equipments like CNC lathe and milling machines provides the students an opportunity to get hands on experience with automated equipments found in top-notch industries.


    Computer Aided Drafting is taught using common software like AutoCAD, Creo etc. used by 1St year B.Tech. (All branches) & B.Tech. (Mechanical) in general. Here, students love to spend hours together practicing these high end software in air-conditioned computer labs.


    The lab has updated equipments needed for imparting practical insights in the study of Automobile Engineering. Various elements like transmission, suspension, chassis etc. are dealt with.


    Measurement and Metrology is one the most important areas related to Quality Control – as found on shop floors. The lab has fully developed set of equipments to make the students industry ready.


    The lab has various models to demonstrate the important concepts of Kinematics of Machines. Besides these, equipments necessary for providing practical understanding of the important concepts of balancing of machine parts, vibrations in machine, parts, flywheels and gear drives are studied in it.


    We have the state of the art facilities in central workshop having machine shop, Engine Lathe, Center Lathe, Carpentry shop. Fitting shop. Foundry, Fabrication shop, Welding Shop. Students have the facility to complete their projects in the workshop for vehicle manufacturing and assembling of parts.


    The primary objective of this IAR-COE is to bridge the technological gap and focus on training programs to the multidiscipline branches. This lab will help in catering to the growing demand from engineering and low cost automation with hydraulics and pneumatics in India as well as worldwide.

  • This Centre is an initiative by DIT University to prepare multidisciplinary engineering graduates to full fill the requirements of the industry. The Centre has world class infrastructure supported by HYDAC- Germany, equipment’s, training kits, hardware, software and teaching aids with trained faculty. The center has six laboratories on Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Sensorics, PLCs, Measurement technology and 6 axis industrial robots. The center aims to provide hands on training to engineering students as well as industry professionals. These trainings will enhance the understanding of the students for better employability.
