    We at DIT University feel that studying Humanities and Social Sciences is important because it touches on the most fundamental questions of being human. With this idea, we hope to present the department as a harbour that brings people together as specimens of humanity. The department has the brightest minds from academia and industry to facilitate knowledge transfer as per professional requirements. Department is collaborating and liaising with experts of various fields in order to develop skills that connect aesthetics, knowledge and the society. It aims to initiate diverse programs with stimulating pedagogy for all around development of students. The department also provides multiple opportunities for faculty and student synergy and thereby establish an environment that epitomizes liberal education.

    The Guide: Dr. Monika Srivastava

    Professor Monika has 24 years of teaching experience and has been actively involved in teaching, research, corporate training and consultancy. She has conducted Development programs for faculties, Managers, executives and students across the different states of India and abroad.

    Earlier to DIT University she has worked for Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management & Research, Kanpur, Sahara Art and Management Academy, Lucknow and University of Lucknow.

    She earned her Doctoral degree (2001) in ‘Organizational Behavior’ and master’s degrees in Psychology and Business Administration as well. She has qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission in 1996.

    She has extended her expertise to organizations such as Employees State Insurance Corporation, Kanpur; Sahara Hospital, Lucknow; Institute of Research Development & Training (IRDT) Kanpur; Threads India Limited, Regional Center of National Academy of Custom Excise and Narcotics, Kanpur. She also has international teaching and research experience in countries like Bhutan, Ethiopia, Oman and Nepal.

    Dr. Srivastava has demonstrated her exemplary organizing skills by conducting many events like FDP, MDP, Workshops, Conferences and Summits of national and international stature. She has authored around 40 research papers on contemporary modern management thoughts like Stress, Commitment, Well-being, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Management Education.

    During the pandemic in the last one and a half year she has organized seven online faculty Development Programs for teachers and been speaker for 5 international webinars. Recently on 11th August 2020, she has been conferred with Teaching Excellence Award-2020 and Best Teacher Award on 4th September 2020 for contribution to society by Innovative Education.

  • The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences plays the distinctive role of integrating human attributes and values with a holistic science and technology education. It helps to make India’s bright young minds critical thinkers and ensures all round holistic development of students through teaching a variety of subjects, innovative curricula, and participation in co-curricular activities. The department offers subjects like Professional Communication, Engineering Economics, Principles of Management, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Human Values and Ethics.

  • The department is introducing BA Economics (Honors) from the session 2017-18. Further, in order to make the students campus ready, they are exposed to corporate communication and their technical writing skills developed with an emphasis on critical thinking, rhetorical analysis, effective writing and effective document design. Nationally renowned trainers impart training in subjects like Soft Skills Development, Aptitude Building and Personality Development to enable them to present themselves effectively and handle professional situations.

Highlights of the Department

  • Foreign Languages

    The Foreign Languages program is designed to provide students with a professional edge in today’s competitive environment. DITU has entered into an MoU with the Embassy of France for teaching French language. A French national teaches French to the students at the end of which globally recognized due certification is provided. A language certification course in French, German & Spanish is also being run by the department.

  • Language Lab

    Multimedia Language Lab equipped with sixty three multimedia computers has been specially designed for language learning and offers a variety of functions for language tutorials.

    The department also offers a Ph.D program in English, Economics, Psychology

Various Clubs

  • The Editorial Board is the ideal platform to exhibit and hone the immense talent of budding professionals. It consists of teams for creative writing, editing and designing of University publications.
  • ‘Clikrrati Literati’ , the literary club nurtures the talents of students in literary fields. (Literary events, Poetry) It celebrates major events and occasions by organizing competitions that help students to explore, understand and realize their true selves. Major events are Rajbhasa Mahotsava and Desh Prem Mahotsava.
  • Spic Macay DIT University chapter of was inaugurated in April 2012. The club promotes Indian culture among youth through classical music and dance events.
  • Mesmoronica The Music & Dance Club aims at exploring hidden musical talents in students in different genres i.e., instrumental, Indian classical and folk music.
  • Personality Development Club (PDC) aims at the overall grooming of the personality of students by assessing their areas of weakness and working on them to bring about a positive transformation.
  • Research ClubAims at nurturing the potential of young researchers. In the University a large number of young technocrats with a lot of intellectual abilities are seen. They are creative, thoughtful and energetic. This club organizes two events in every session, The Paper Presentation Competition in the Odd semester and Quiz Competition in Even semester.
  • The Red Ribbon club is formed by DIT, Dehradun in association with Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society (USACS) under the NSS. The club aims at spreading awareness about AIDS and its prevention through various competitions like Slogan Writing, Painting, Quiz , Essay Competition etc.

  • Language Lab

    It is a viable source of providing training in global accent to the students coming from various vernacular mediums. The language lab enables each student to have a self–paced learning through different software so that the student can progress from his/her own proficiency level. The Language Laboratory is a high tech equipped class which offers a variety of functions. It has been specially designed for student-teacher interaction, and greater concentration for language learning.

    The Language Lab provides practice in word accent, stress, rhythm and intonation as well as correct pronunciation of vowels and consonants of the English language by listening and repeating. Likewise, various software platforms enable each student to train for presentations, negotiation and other soft skills. This lab is mandatory for B. Tech first year students. The students of the other years can also avail of the facilities of this lab as per their convenience. The Lab is equipped with 60 multimedia computers along with headphones. The students are provided with all the facilities at their workstation.

  • Software and Learning Resources

    The Digital Interactive Lab (one teacher+20 students) is installed in the central system through which all the systems are networked.

  • Psychology Lab

    Psychology focuses on exploration of several behavioral, emotional and cognitive domains of human psyche through interview, test, experiment, case study, observation and diagnostic assessment. In this pursuance, DIT University has developed a modern and well-equipped psychology laboratory for conducting research in many cutting edge areas of psychology.

    This laboratory has latest and best facilities including scientifically validated personality tests like 16 PF, intelligence tests such as Alexander Pass-a-long Test of Intelligence, projective tests like Rorschach Inkblot Test, Thematic Apperception Test (TAT), Haffman problem solving concept formation, leadership scale, comprehensive interest questionnaire, social impression scale, spiritual competence, learning disability checklist, occupational stress index, adjustment inventory, Tachistoscope, memory drum apparatus digital. In order to conduct advanced psychological experiments, it has been provided with comfortable and ultra-modern facilities for interacting and engaging participants of the study.
