A session on Career opportunities for students of liberal arts

The School of Liberal Arts and Management, DITU organised an event for the students of the department of Humanities on 16th March 2023. Ms. Divya Dubey and Mr Tushar Bhatt from T.I.M.E Dehradun, were invited as external speakers to deliver the session which was attended by 45 students. The session started at 3:00 PM in Vishveshwarya Lecture Hall with the welcoming and felicitation of guests by the Dean and HOD of Humanities department.


The primary agenda of the session was to enlighten the students about the career opportunities for liberal arts and humanities students. The speakers talked about some major employability skills such as Communication Skills, Critical Thinking, Creativity and Problem Solving. They also discussed the possibilities in liberal arts encouraging students to consider building their profiles in industries such as education, management, sales and other creative fields such as media and film industry, writing and working with NGO’S. Some profiles highlighted by them were as technical writer, human resources specialist, social media marketing, translator, public relation manager, corporate jobs, counselling and business analysts.


Students were also advised to add value and enhance their skills by ways taking more internships, working on their portfolio, building network, use informational interview technique to gather necessary information, search job listing and through career and placement cell. Some of the entrance exams the speakers highlighted were GRE, TISNET, SNAP and GMAT.


Towards the end of the session an aptitude test (with a prize) was conducted and the sheets were carried back by the speakers for evaluation. Mr. Bhatt especially helped the students solve some of the questions using logic after the test.

The session was highly engaging and the students participated, asked questions and submitted their test papers.


The students appreciated the session and it concluded with a vote of thanks to the speakers. Group picture was taken and speakers and faculty proceeded for tea and snacks at 4:40 PM.

The event was organised by the Dean, SoLAM, Dr Hiranmoy Roy and HoD, SoLAM, Dr Monika Srivastava. Dr Priyanka Danny, Assistant Professor, coordinated the event with the help of student volunteers Saima Siddiqui, Avantika, Varima, Nitishree and Anusha from B.A. Psychology second year.
