Dr. Santosh Kumar Rath has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy, DIT University since 2nd March 2022. He is a medicinal and natural product chemist with over 13 years of experience spanning research, academia, and industry.

Dr. Rath earned his Ph.D. from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) at CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar, India. Prior to joining DIT University, he held positions as Associate Professor and Research Head in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Danteshwari College of Pharmacy, Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh (2020–2022), and as a CSIR-Research Associate at the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala (2018–2020). He was awarded the prestigious CSIR-Research Associateship in 2018 and the ICMR-Senior Research Fellowship (ICMR-SRF) in 2013. His earlier research experience includes working at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu.

Dr. Rath has an extensive research and publication record with over 42 research papers in reputed international journals with cumulative IF>150, 15 book chapters, Chief Editor of 1 Book Series, 4 edited books, and 10 Indian patents to his credit. He also served as an Editorial Board Member in the Natural Products Journal(IF: 1.2), Bentham Science Publisher. His research interests lie in Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, and Organic Synthesis, with expertise in the isolation, identification, and characterization of bioactive secondary metabolites, as well as structural modification of major chemical constituents from plant and fungal sources.

He is proficient in chromatographic techniques (column chromatography, preparative TLC, HPLC) and skilled in spectroscopic data interpretation (1H NMR, 13C NMR, 1D and 2D NMR, Mass, IR, etc.). His work includes multistep synthesis of biologically active synthetic and natural product–based hybrid scaffolds for lead identification in neurological disorders, cancer, diabetes, viral infections, including COVID-19, and other infectious diseases. His current research focuses on developing novel P-glycoprotein and bacterial efflux pump inhibitors, synthetic modifications of natural products for enhanced activity and reduced toxicity, and innovative synthetic methodologies for C–H functionalization of heterocycles and other small molecules of medicinal relevance. Dr. Rath has contributed significantly to numerous research projects and maintains collaborative engagements with several research groups.
