Awareness Drive on World Leprosy Day 2020

  • WORLD LEPROSY DAY

    On 27th January, 2020 Faculty of Pharmacy, DIT University, Dehradun – Uttarakhand organized World Leprosy Day. Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. The disease mainly affects the skin, the peripheral nerves, mucosal surfaces of the upper respiratory tract and the eyes. Leprosy is known to occur at all ages ranging from early infancy to very old age. Leprosy is curable and early treatment averts most disabilities. The programme has begun with photoshoot with faculties and members of Aarogya club. Faculties also share their knowledge about leprosy. On this occasions M. Pharm, B. Pharm and D. Pharm students visited Holy Child School, Rajkiya Vidyalaya and Rajkiya primary school in and around Dehradun to spread knowledge on leprosy and the message of Mahatma Gandhi on leprosy. They distributed pamphlets, leaflets and posters among school children, staff and teachers of the school. Children were educated on preventive measures to avoid contact with pathogen.
